when god gives green grass

When God gives green grass

in the midst of the desert,

I find hope and courage.

My soul settles in the sweetness

of peace and provision.

My fears sink buried beneath the soil.

When God gives green grass,

I find the sustenance for the journey.

The long months of drought

are forgotten as hope bubbles

like soaking rain and rushing stream

replenishing the cracks in my soul.

When God gives green grass,

my feet trip lightly across the tender turf,

dancing with joy unfettered,

swaying like a sunny dandelion,

face and hands lifted

with gratitude to heaven.
