CROW TALK

Each morning

you caw at first light

announcing the dawn

of a new day

Abrasive

in your declaration

of the rising sun

shining on red tile roof tops

What are you saying?

Is it a warning of events yet to come

a call to prepare for a new season

or an auspicious sign of hope

I wish

I could talk crow talk

and heed the warning

of this black feathered messenger

As you “Caw, caw, caw”

sentinel from the top of the oak tree

instead, I wake and wonder

What has upset you this early?
