Mockingbird

You run through your repertoire

mimicking other birds with confidence and sass

Who are you singing to?

I wish it were for me

I would take the time to listen

Find you among the trees hidden beneath spring buds

I care and wonder

What are you saying?

Is it a song of hope, happiness or heartbreak?

Are scolding your mate?

Sharing gossip or daily news in the neighborhood

Did something happen to your nestlings?

Does the day require a song at the break of dawn?

Or the night, a lonely singer under the moonlight?

I hear you and am blessed by your melodies
